The 167th Annual Northwestern University Commencement

Commencement is the-all Northwestern ceremony where the graduating class is commemorated as a whole. During the ceremony, student, faculty and guest speakers will address graduates and their families.

Ameet Mallik (’94, MS ’95) is the CEO of ADC Therapeutics, a leading commercial-stage global pioneer in the field of antibody drug conjugates (ADC), where he focuses on unlocking the potential value of a robust ADC portfolio across two pillars of growth — hematology and solid tumors. Before joining ADC Therapeutics in 2022, Mallik served as CEO of Rafael Holdings, a novel cancer and immune metabolism therapeutics company.

Ameet Mallik

Mallik holds more than 25 years of industry experience, including more than 16 at Novartis, most recently as executive vice president and head of US Oncology. Before that, Mallik served Novartis Oncology as global head of marketing, value, and access, and head of Latin America and Canada. Mallik began his career at Novartis as head of strategic planning and held numerous commercial and leadership roles across Novartis and spinoff company Sandoz during his tenure.

Mallik serves on the boards of directors of ADC Therapeutics and Atara Biotherapeutics and is a business adviser for Juvena Therapeutics. He also chairs the Board of Trustees for NJ LEEP. Mallik holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania as well as a master’s in biotechnology and a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Northwestern Engineering.

If you are an MS or PhD student who graduated prior to Fall 2024, or will finish all degree requirements after the Spring 2025 deadline but before June 11, 2025, please complete this form to request permission to participate in the June commencement events.

Combined Degree students should not fill out this form. Please contact your MS department for eligibility information.

The deadline for submission is June 1, 2025.

If you are a graduate of the Fall 2024, Winter 2025, or Spring 2025 quarters, you do not need to fill out this form as you are automatically entered into our systems as eligible.

McCormick Undergraduate Convocation

Note: BS/MS graduates are invited to participate in Undergraduate Convocation. Both degrees will be recognized at this ceremony.

Graduation Speaker

Matthew Skaruppa (’04) is the chief financial officer for Duolingo, the world’s most popular language learning app, known for its gamified lessons and unhinged owl mascot. He joined the Duolingo team in 2020 and he helped the company prepare for its July 2021 initial public offering.

Matthew SkaruppaPrior to Duolingo, Skaruppa was a vice president at Goldman Sachs, where he partnered with and helped grow technology companies. Before that, he spent five years at KKR Capstone, the operating consulting arm of the private equity firm KKR. There he collaborated with CEOs, CFOs, and management teams on key value creation initiatives to drive growth and operating improvements. He started his career working as a consultant at Bain & Company, where he helped healthcare and real estate businesses with strategy and private equity firms with due diligence.

Skaruppa sits on the board of Lovevery, a company that helps parents develop their children through innovative and science-backed play kits. He holds a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Northwestern Engineering and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He lives with his wife, Cindy, and two daughters, Annie and Audrey, in Columbus, Ohio.

Graduates who wish to attend the McCormick PhD Hooding and Master's Degree Recognition or the Undergraduate Convocation Ceremony must register by May 26:

  1. Visit northwestern.tassel.com/.
  2. Select 'Register’ under New Users.
  3. Register using the email address where you received this email.
  4. Instructions for setting your password will be sent to your email address. Select the ‘Set Password’ link included in the email.
  5. Your ceremony will appear after you have finished logging in. Select 'Register Here.'
  6. Complete the registration form and select ‘Submit.’

Order Regalia

Regalia must be worn by all participating graduates. MS students must purchase regalia. PhD students have the option to purchase or rent regalia. It is important to order as soon as possible.

Please visit the University's regalia webpage and follow the ordering instructions.

Key Dates to Order PhD Regalia

  • February 27 - April 2 – Dates for purchasing fine quality PhD regalia to own and to be shipped to your residence.
  • February 27 - May 1 – Dates for renting regalia to be shipped to the bookstore for pickup.

Key Dates to Order Master's Regalia

  • February 27 - April 8 – Dates for ordering regalia to be picked up at the Grad Fair in the Norris University Center Bookstore on April 16 or April 17.
  • February 27 - May 12 – Dates for ordering regalia to be shipped to your residence.
  • April 18 - May 16 – Dates for ordering regalia to be picked up at the Norris University Center Bookstore. Regalia may be picked up in the bookstore on or after June 2.

Key Dates to Order Undergraduate Regalia

  • February 27 - April 8 – Ordering dates for bachelor’s and master's degree graduates who will pick up their order at the Grad Fair in the Norris University Center Bookstore on April 16 or April 17. Graduates who choose this option MUST pick up regalia at the Grad Fair.
  • April 18 - May 16 – Ordering dates for bachelor’s and master's degree graduates who will pick up their order at the Norris University Center Bookstore. Regalia may be picked up in the bookstore on or after June 2.
  • February 27 - May 12 – Ordering dates for bachelor's degree graduates wishing to have their order shipped to their residence. (An additional shipping fee will apply).

McCormick BS/MS graduates will be recognized at our Undergraduate Convocation and should wear Master's regalia.

Order Ceremony Tickets

Tickets are required for all guests at Commencement and school convocations.

Login instructions for the Graduation Tickets website are sent to eligible students via email. If you have not received instructions, you can look at the emails previously sent to the Class of 2025 or send an email to the Graduation Office, noting your school name.

Graduates may order UP TO 8 tickets to the McCormick Undergraduate Convocation Ceremony.

Ticket restrictions for other ceremonies vary, including University Commencement at the United Center. Please review the Graduation Tickets webpage for important information on ordering deadlines, waitlists, and maximum ticket allotments for all Commencement and school convocation events.

McCormick BS/MS graduates are invited to participate in Undergraduate Convocation, where both the BS and MS degrees will be recognized.
