The Wall Street Journal highlights the challenges in creating robotic hands equal to the real thing, spotlighting the work being done by Professors J. Edward Colgate and Kevin Lynch and their colleagues at the US National Science Foundation Human AugmentatioN via Dexterity Engineering Research Center (HAND ERC).  

“We’re setting 10 years as our goal to have dexterity, be functional and useful and able to do some of the things that humans do,” Lynch said.
