Matthew Skaruppa, Ameet Mallik to Speak at 2025 Graduation Ceremonies
Skaruppa and Mallik will address graduates on June 16
Two esteemed alumni will address Northwestern Engineering’s Class of 2025 as part of the McCormick School of Engineering’s graduation ceremonies on Monday, June 16, at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Matthew Skaruppa (’04), chief financial officer at Duolingo, will speak at the McCormick Undergraduate Convocation. Ameet Mallik (’94, MS ’95), CEO of ADC Therapeutics, will speak at the McCormick PhD Hooding and Master’s Degree Recognition Ceremony.
“Matthew and Ameet exemplify the diverse and impactful career paths that a Northwestern Engineering education can lead to," said Christopher Schuh, dean of the McCormick School of Engineering. "Their successful journeys in finance and biotechnology, respectively, will undoubtedly inspire our graduates as they embark on their own careers. I’m thrilled to have them share their insights and experiences with the Class of 2025.”
Matthew Skaruppa
Matthew Skaruppa (’04) is the chief financial officer for Duolingo, the world’s most popular language learning app, known for its gamified lessons and unhinged owl mascot. He joined the Duolingo team in 2020 and he helped the company prepare for its July 2021 initial public offering.
Prior to Duolingo, Skaruppa was a vice president at Goldman Sachs, where he partnered with and helped grow technology companies. Before that, he spent five years at KKR Capstone, the operating consulting arm of the private equity firm KKR. There he collaborated with CEOs, CFOs, and management teams on key value creation initiatives to drive growth and operating improvements. He started his career working as a consultant at Bain & Company, where he helped healthcare and real estate businesses with strategy and private equity firms with due diligence.
Skaruppa sits on the board of Lovevery, a company that helps parents develop their children through innovative and science-backed play kits. He holds a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Northwestern Engineering and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He lives with his wife, Cindy, and two daughters, Annie and Audrey, in Columbus, Ohio.
Ameet Mallik
Ameet Mallik (’94, MS ’95) is the CEO of ADC Therapeutics, a leading commercial-stage global pioneer in the field of antibody drug conjugates (ADC), where he focuses on unlocking the potential value of a robust ADC portfolio across two pillars of growth — hematology and solid tumors. Before joining ADC Therapeutics in 2022, Mallik served as CEO of Rafael Holdings, a novel cancer and immune metabolism therapeutics company.
Mallik holds more than 25 years of industry experience, including more than 16 at Novartis, most recently as executive vice president and head of US Oncology. Before that, Mallik served Novartis Oncology as global head of marketing, value, and access, and head of Latin America and Canada. Mallik began his career at Novartis as head of strategic planning and held numerous commercial and leadership roles across Novartis and spinoff company Sandoz during his tenure.
Mallik serves on the boards of directors of ADC Therapeutics and Atara Biotherapeutics and is a business adviser for Juvena Therapeutics. He also chairs the Board of Trustees for NJ LEEP. Mallik holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania as well as a master’s in biotechnology and a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Northwestern Engineering.
